Formation and Fellowship

Buck Mountain Episcopal Church Christian education, formation, and fellowship

Spiritual Education and Formation at Buck Mountain

Buck Mountain is a community that loves to share, learn, and grow with one another. We offer a variety of ongoing and seasonal programs for adults, teens, and younger kids. We especially seek to encourage lay leadership in our educational and formational programs!

Along with education, we believe that intergenerational worship and social activities are the core of what it means to be the church. Kids and teens are always welcome at our worship services and social events.

For Adults

Bible Study

10 am every Thursday in the Conference Room, Deese Hall

About: The Bible Study is one of our longest-running programs at Buck Mountain! Members meet each week to study the Bible in its historical, contextual, and theological context. Bring your Bible and a desire to learn!

Adult Forums

Offered seasonally after the 10:30 Sunday service, Deese Hall

About: Adult Forums are an opportunity for the congregation to engage meaningfully with a particular topic regarding our faith, community, tradition, and call.

Sacred Ground Series

Ongoing and seasonal. Contact the church office for meeting details.

About: The Sacred Ground Series explores the United States’ history through the lens of racism, colonial mission, immigration, class, and more in order to help us tell the truth about ourselves in pursuit of building Beloved Community. We just completed our first run-through of this life-changing course, and plan to offer it again in the future.

Episcopal Church Women (ECW)

Meets monthly. Contact the church office for details.

About: Founded in 1871, Episcopal Church Women is a national organization of the Episcopal Church that focuses on women’s engagement in church ministry, embarking on many outreach projects and fundraising events in service of the church and the world.

Choir

A regular (and much beloved) program of Buck Mountain, the choir is not currently meeting due to continuing Covid-19 safety precautions.

For Kids and Teens

Acolyting

Our youth are encouraged to get involved by assisting as acolytes during weekly services.

About: Acolytes assist clergy and the Altar Guild in performing the liturgical duties of the service, from processing and recessing to assisting at Eucharist. It is a great opportunity for kids and teens to be brought into the theological richness of our ancient traditions.

Confirmation

Teenagers are encouraged to learn more about their growing faith through confirmation classes. Contact Rev. Connie if interested.

About: Confirmation classes are typically offered during the Lenten season each spring, and teens are confirmed by the Bishop during their annual visit.

Youth Group & Sunday School

Buck Mountain does not currently offer regular formation programs for kids and teens, but they are highly encouraged to attend services and other intergenerational programs of the church.

If you have an interest in discussing Sunday School or youth group opportunities, please reach out to Connie.

Other Activities

Community Yoga

Every Monday at 6pm, Deese Hall (next to the sanctuary)

Led by one of our members, community yoga is offered weekly. All ages and abilities are welcome. And feel free to come whether or not you’re a member of Buck Mountain Church.
